Ep. 108: The 2011 Joplin Tornado

A face full of bleach is often unpredictable. In this one, Ian and Liv talk about a massive, mile-wide tornado that struck Joplin, Missouri in 2011. The damage to the city was catastrophic, including the total destruction of a major hospital, making this tornado one of costliest and deadliest tornados in recorded history. Also, Liv locks her cats in the basement. Ian is Akron's biggest slut.

Waterparks are the result of humanity's hubris of science. In this one, Ian and Liv revisit one of their favorite episodes for Disaster Hour's 3rd Birthday: Action Park! Throughout the 1980s, Action Park was an outdoor waterpark with waterslides that were straight out of a Stephen King novel. They were dangerous, exhilarating, and built with zero professional architects or rollercoaster engineers. Guests were injured, the park faced lawsuits, and the owner continued dodging the law for decades....

There's a right and wrong way to riot, everyone. In this one, Ian and Liv talk about a riot that broke out in Vancouver after the 2011 Stanley Cup finals. And it's confirmed to be a fact, that the best way to mentally process your team's loss, is destroying the city in which they're based. Hashtag sarcasm. Also, Liv's high school math teacher is dead. Ian fantasizes about being placed under house arrest.

Ep. 103: The Viking Sky Cruise Nightmare

Dangerously close to danger. In this one, Ian & Liv talk about a cruise from 2019 that got turned upside down (almost literally) when the ship lost power mid-cruise in rough seas. The rescue efforts were daunting, passengers were injured, the grand piano was damaged, but the snow grotto was unharmed. Also, Liv faces her fear of cruises. Ian loses all creativity.

Wild auroras and electrical malfunction across the planet. Was it the end of times, or just regular times? Spoiler: it was both and neither. Also, Liv wishes the Earth would lose power. How did such a joyous event become so chaotic, dangerous, and memorable? Also, Carolyn is worried about the children. Pete wishes he were a victim. Ian doesn't understand the concept of capitalism.

Look out for oozing, creamy poison. In this one, Ian and Liv talk about another wild time in 1930's Australia, where an invasive species of toad was brought to the continent to eradicate a somewhat less invasive insect. The plan backfired, despite being incredibly well thought out, and Australia's ecosystem today in 2025 is still feeling the effects. Also, Liv bravely ignores Ian's annoying comments. Dynamite is the Swiss army knife of explosives. Season 9 is here! Starting off the Road to 100, Ian and Liv talk about a promotional event at a 1979 White Sox double-header in Chicago, where fans were encouraged to bring vinyl disco records to be detonated on the field between games. However, the event takes a sharp left as the fans turn into nightmare of a riot. Also, Ian decorates the studio for the holidays. Liv was not only afraid, but also petrified.

Chicago really is the perfect cup of tea. In this one, Ian and Liv venture back to the 90s for a week-long heatwave that caught Chicago by surprise. The city's resources were overwhelmed, residents were dying from the suffocating heat, there were no vacancies at the morgue, the mayor was MIA, and the response from city hall was lackluster at best. Also, Ian enjoys hiking just around the riverbend. Liv really feels like she's fitting in.

Calling off work could save your life. In this one, Ian and Liv talk about the Edmund Fitzgerald, a freighter ship on the Great Lakes that sank in 1975. There was a storm, there was tragedy, there was a possibility of aliens! And even though Leo never stared in a movie about it, the disaster left an impressive mark on pop-culture. Also, Liv dances her heart out to Gordon Lightfoot. Ian focuses on murders. Dakota is intimidated by the camera. Otto is napping silently in the living room.
